Bar Hum Bug, the lefty rap you all in cotton wool to save you from yourself wingers are at it again, wanting to Ban the good old fire works. The old we should Ban them becuase 5 numnuts hurt themselves is flying around again, how about all the pople who get injured, playing sport, driving cars, racing cars, riding push bikes, riding motorbikes, walking down stairs, fishing, shooting, drinking and living life in general. How far should the Bans go to protect us from ourselves. My family has been letting fireworks off in the Terrirory for 3 generations and have not had a single injury.

So in short, should fireworks be banned in the NT, or should people be responsible for their actions.

Woah Jewy. Fire up son!
Fireworks don't hurt people, stupid people hurt people!
I honestly think that it is just a matter of time before they are banned. Last year someone lost their sight, surely it can't be long before someone goes the whole hog and dies.
Fireworks can be great fun, but as always, it's the small minority that ruin it for the rest of us.
I get a little sick of not being able to go to a public viewing place as idiots are letting them off next to people.
I also hate having to put up with people letting them off for a month afterwards.
I think that in order to keep them legal the rules are going to have to change again. Maybe things like further restricting where they can be let off, and how about the ability to shoot the idiots who let them off when they shouldn't?
Nothing will happen until after the next state election. Then I reckon they will go the way of no speed limits.

I have the same background Jewy, always been around things that go boom. And all it takes is a few numbnuts to ruin it.

Already missing the open speed limits, and we actually have a higher road toll this year. So following the NT Govts past history in stats massaging .... theoretically .... speed restrictions kill more people !

*shrug* just bandage me up in my cotton balls now and protect me from real life !

I hate fireworks night. It's smokey and loud. The NT needs to grow up.

To all you people who like blowing things up, go for it! I just don't like everyone doing it at once! lol ;)

I like the freedom invloved with publicly available fireworks, but I also think people should be required to sit a simple exam at least like a firearms licence to prove they are a little aware of the hazards and how to deal with them before they can buy them.

Too many yahoos out there spoil it for the sensible ones.

If the friggin' idiots that let them off days/months before and after could control themselves it would be cool. As I live on the Nightcliff foreshore I get them for weeks afterwards. No to mention the d@$heads thet blew the crap out of the public toilet last year. Sounded like a genade going oh and had about the same effect!!!

I don't think they should be banned, no way.

BUT I do think that it should be legally permitted to find the people who let them off outside of Territory Day, and hang them upside-down over a lit $50 bag of crackers.

(There is someone in a block of units just up from me who is still letting them off at 2am two or three nights a week. When I find him, he's a dead man...)

I think what they need to be promoting is having firework areas in the suburbs where the whole family can go down and bring their fireworks and professional people will let them off and everyone can enjoy them. These however runs the risk of people abusing it and only leaving it to the few to purchase the fireworks and still sitting down to enjoy them. I feel though that the incentive for this not occuring is that people don’t like the fireworks to end quickly. I don’t know just an idea.... if they wanted to do something i think that would be the way to go.... I personally like the freedom we have now.. Just takes some rules to be brought in that if your using them irresponsibly then you get a fine or something

I'm not confused...or undecided.....I just don't care. That should be an option.

The way the questions are set is to pre-emptivly get people to vote a certain way.

No-one wants to say they are scarred of everything - when a simple YES will suffice.
No one will want to say they are confused.

The only answer anyone is likely to select is NO - because this is the only answer which doesn't belittle the person answering the question.

BTW...geez...this is getting kinda deep....need a panadol. I did say I don't care right?

I think that because of the logistics involved with a system to see that crakers are kept out of the hands of idiots, that it will be easier for them to be banned.

I also have the "morons letting them off for months afterwards" problem. Our issue is they drive up our street, you hear them zoom off loudly and then a few seconds later "BANG"
