Hello all.
I'm entirely new to forums. Basically I'm a fantasy artist (at least an aspiring one) also interested in history.
I'm also interested in local/unique legends. In particular I'm looking for information about the "Poincina Woman". Any help would be much apreciated. If you want to check out my art go here (http://www.elfwood.com/art/s/h/shelz/shelz.html)

Hi typthis! welcome to RA firstly !

Being a Darwin local I have of course heard about this legend from my school days, but the details were always somewhat vague and changed a lot.

The story that stuck most in my head was the version of the area out at east point where on a non moonlit night if you called "Poinciana" 3 times the spirit of the dead woman was supposed to chase you. Of course that was just one variant of the story. maybe some of the other members here who are in darwin might know it better?

thats excellent :) another artist on our forums!

I checked out some of your work and its awesome!

If you have a couple of seconds you should really do a quick join-up over at GrandInferno too:) (http://www.grandinferno.net/forum) at GI they have a lot of art discussion, both contemporary as well as digital and also photgraphy.

They would love your work over there too, plus the chance to talk to an artist such as yourself and swap ideas/techniques etc.

As to the Poinciana woman ! Yeah having grown up in Darwin I heard a lot of this legend when i was goin thru school in the 80's! wish I had listened more closely tho, my recollection is rather vague!

Would you be able to recount those other versions please? Any extra details, no matter how trivial, would be helpfull.
