Canberra calls on Telstra to break up
Michael Sainsbury | October 04, 2007
THE federal Government has stepped up its pressure for a break-up of Telstra, calling on the company's board to consider a voluntary split of the telecoms giant ahead of a possible forced structural change by either side of politics after the election.
Communications Minister Helen Coonan told The Australian that the board, headed by Victorian farmer, Donald McGauchie, should consider such a move as being in the best interests of Telstra's 1.6 million shareholders.
They should have done this befor they sold Tel$tra.
