anyone know of aussie companies that do good rates for car insurance, preferably with comprehensive. Cos today i went to RACQ to insure my car, 1.6lt 4 cylinder ford laser, will cost me $2100:|

and i ain't paying that much, so any help would be awesome

It varies wildly with Age, car type (and mods) and prior driving record. If your a (male) p plate driver under 25 with any kind of driving record then you are going to to have to grit your teath, unfortunatly. If your car is modified in ANY way it will make things worse too. (eg mag wheels, big exhaust, rear wing, big stereo)

Were you ever listed (by name) on your folks insurance for driving their cars? This can assist you in getting a few steps up the no-claim-bonus ladder.

Also consider trading a large excess for reduced annual payment option.

Can you take advantage of a bundling package from any bank or credit card organisation you are part of?

I'm with Elders, they did me a good deal at the time which saved me heaps, but they are another mainstream company which will probably not be much cheaper.

did one through AMMI, only cost me around $1500.....
