The new firmware will come with the power to change your voice with five different pre-sets featuring high and low tones. A new music bit mapping process will "provide enhanced audio" playback and the PlayStation 3 will also now support the Blu-ray disk profile 1.1, which means that picture in picture will now be enabled. The most exciting inclusion if the support for DivX and WMV playback. DivX playback will be restricted to non copyrighted material for under 2GB and DivX 3.11.

It also includes a new visualiser for audio playback:
It looks very sweet:

The new firmware is simply awesome.
The new visuals are spectacular and now the PS3 truly is a media centre.
DivX movies play straight away and clean as ever. The sound is pretty impressive.
When I was decoding DivX on my PC before streaming I had various issues. These are gone with the new update. My collection of downloaded TV shows and movies is now easily accessable, ready for comfy lounge viewing on the big screen.
I tried a number of different media server products (Nero, Tversity, Winamp) for DLNA streaming and it turns out that Windows Media Player 11 was the best. I could hardly believe it. I had issues with the other products not delivering the full package - ie video ok, but no playlists, etc...
WMP11 does the lot and logically groups your media if you wish to browse. Playlist support is better than another other product and even incorporates album art.
I had hoped when I purchased the PS3 that I might be able to copy some Mp3's to it, and maybe the odd mpeg2 video. Now I have a complete wireless media centre replacement. Good bye yucky cords strung across the wall.
Oh, did I forget to mention it also plays Blu-ray and games?
Best $300 I have spent in a long time.
